Conference: Collaborating Efforts to Mitigate Pollution in the Indo-Gangetic Plain

Undertaken By: Centre for Environment and Energy Development,    Recent Publication: 2017

This conference brought together high-level stakeholders from Bihar, Jharkhand and Uttar Pradesh to deliberate solutions for mitigating air pollution as well as to identity key areas of collaboration. One of the underlying themes of discussion was the need for regional cooperation for a clean air action plan. Collaborative and coordinated action will lead to long-term change, given that air pollution is a transboundary phenomenon. It was also pointed out that cities in the Indo-Gangetic region need to be decongested by reducing the number of private vehicles and by introducing public transport and e-mobility solutions. Another discussion theme was the impact of residential open traditional stove cooking, power plants and brick-kiln industries on both pollution and public health.
