India’s growing consumer appliance market is increasingly adding to the demand for energy. Energy efficiency and conservation practices for home appliances and industrial equipment can help reduce energy consumption, emissions and energy cost burden. India has introduced important policy measures to promote energy efficiency in appliances. One of these is the Standards and Labeling programme (S&L), which has significant potential for energy demand reduction and consumer cost savings. Shakti Sustainable Energy Foundation (Shakti) is working in support of this programme by aiding activities that strengthen standard setting, program implementation, and monitoring and verification. Shakti is also working to catalyze efforts to help transform the appliances market to one that is largely led by energy efficient appliances.
