Climate Insights Unit

The Climate Insights Unit, supports the philanthropic and CSO communities with insights that can help conceive and deploy impactful initiatives to address the constantly evolving challenges of climate change and clean energy. We undertake research that can provide actionable inputs to philanthropic and CSO communities, and through these engagements to the larger set of policy stakeholders. Our efforts are focused on improving access to knowledge on emerging issues relevant to climate, clean energy, technology, sustainable development, and policy.

Position Overview

As Researcher – Climate Insights Unit, your work will focus on building comprehensive knowledge on significant policy and technology developments in the climate and clean energy domains. The research will deepen our understanding on emerging issues and identify impactful interventions that align with philanthropic and civil society efforts. You will be responsible for publishing and communicating insights such that it can inform our programmes, partners, and other stakeholders in the ecosystem.

The “Researcher – Climate Insights Unit” is a researcher and a manager, who will be responsible for the design, oversight, management, and conduct of research activities. You will be setting up standards and procedures for research efforts and also be responsible for managing relationships with internal and external stakeholders as part of the research activities.  You will also liaison between research and program staff, to inform program research efforts, identify and adopt appropriate research methodologies and review outputs.

Principal Accountabilities

Research and Analysis

  • Developing and managing research projects from idea to completion, conducting research studies and collecting data from primary and secondary sources, analysing data, and presenting findings and conclusions.
  • Build capabilities in areas such as climate and energy modelling to advise program work as well as donors, national and sub-national governments.
  • Host working groups on various issues, that help bring civil society, and sector experts together to collaboratively deliberate key developments.
  • Contribute to strategy discussions and identify new research requirements and areas of focus.
  • Produce regular, timely reports and issue papers in a collaborative manner, that will provide important insights to stakeholders

Communication and Engagement

  • Prepare communication materials e.g., thematic presentations and narratives for various stakeholders.
  • Host seminars and workshops to disseminate findings and discuss potential actions that stakeholders could take.
  • Develop and provide programmatic inputs to the program and communications team.

Required Qualification, Experience and Competencies

  • Master’s degree or equivalent in Public Policy/ Economics/ Climate Science/ Environment/ Energy/ Engineering or related stream from a reputed university/ Institute.
  • Minimum 4 years of relevant experience is required. Relevant research experience in the areas of Energy, Environment and Climate Change is essential.
  • Knowledge of energy policies, regulations, and programmes at international, national, state and city levels.
  • Ability to interact with a wide variety of external stakeholders including government officials, and representatives from the private sector, civil society organisations, and national and international think tanks and research institutions.
  • Experience with a variety of quantitative and qualitative research methods, tools of research, report writing and publication.
  • Excellent critical and strategic thinking abilities.
  • Climate Optimist with a ‘Can do’ spirit.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication, and presentation skills.
  • Superior teamworking and collaborating skills.
  • Drive, Commitment and Ownership for the delegated responsibilities.
