‘India Net Zero Forum 2023’ organised by The Economic Times organised, was an energy event in New Delhi. The forum brought together experts, policymakers, industry leaders, researchers, and advocates to explore innovative solutions and strategies for building a more sustainable future, and drive the transition towards net-zero. The goal of the conference was to kickstart a dialogue that motivates attendees to take proactive steps towards creating a greener, and more socially equitable world.
As the global community grapples with the escalating threat of climate change, the concept of achieving net-zero emissions has reached unprecedented heights. With climate change posing the biggest existential threat to the world, every country has set their Net-zero targets. India, being one of the world’s largest and fastest-growing economies, aims to achieve Net-zero by 2070 and has defined a Long-term Strategy for Low Carbon Development.
This conference was aimed to explore innovative strategies, technologies, and policies to achieve these ambitious targets and address the pressing challenges of climate change. The ET India Net-zero Forum explored the concept of Net-zero and its importance in addressing environmental, social, and economic challenges and also aims to provide a comprehensive overview of sustainability and its key dimensions, as well as highlight some of the best practices and strategies for achieving net-zero ambitions.
“The India Cooling Action Plan (ICAP) was the first-of-its-kind to be released since the signing of the Kigali Amendment to the Montreal Protocol. The ICAP, released in 2019, adopted a multi-stakeholder, multi-sectoral approach to ‘synergise’ actions for addressing the cooling demand across all sectors. Despite COVID outbreak, the country has made substantial progress in implementing ICAP recommendations across all sectors such as Notification of ECBC by States/UTs, R&D on indigenous development of low GWP refrigerants and developing safety standards for flammable refrigerants, capacity building of service technicians, developing sustainable cold value chain, etc” said Dr Sachin Kumar, Director, Industry, Buildings & Cooling Programme, Shakti, participating as a panellist in a session on ‘Decarbonisation in the Power and Buildings Sector’ during The Economic Times India Net Zero Forum 2023 organised on September 29, in New Delhi.
