About the job

The clean power programme aims to accelerate deployment of renewable energy technologies through strategic interventions both the supply-side and demand-side, as well as to make the ecosystem conducive for high RE deployment. We do this by encouraging greater integration of renewable energy in India’s power mix through policy support, advancing business models and guiding the transition political economy at national / sub-national level.

Reporting to Director – Clean Power Programme (“Programme Lead”), the Associate Director will be instrumental in developing sectoral strategy, idea conceptualization,  program management, building, and managing relationships with a wide range of stakeholders, including policymakers, industry leaders, and academic partners, to amplify the impact of the clean power vertical .

Key Responsibilities

Sector Strategy

  • Conduct research and contribute to the development of sector strategy
  • Conduct research and analysis around follow-on opportunities identified by the Programme Lead and those proposed by partner organisations, to establish their relevance
  • Develop the Concept Notes for discussion in the Weekly Programme Team in consultation with the Programme Lead / team
  • Develop presentations for external interactions (e.g. Government bodies, donors, partners etc.)
  • Draft Terms of Reference for issuance of Request for Proposals (RFPs) to the Consultants
  • Coordinate with Programme Lead and prospective partners, on project proposal development from the concept stage onwards
  • Support Programme Lead in the diversification of the portfolio by identifying new potential partners
  • Conduct research to track key sector developments, and interventions of other actors to inform the Program lead about potential project opportunities

Programme Implementation

  • Provide technical input for research studies and implementation plan for the same
  • Lead specific research studies related to the projects
  • Collate and analyse data collected from various sources
  • Develop written outputs from research initiatives, including reports and articles, media pieces and explainers
  • Prepare PowerPoint presentations for each study for sharing with relevant stakeholders
  • Coordinate and work with partners to track progress
  • Coordinate with Programme Lead and Finance Team to ensure adherence to reporting and payment schedules of planned programme activities
  • Support Program Lead in developing monitoring and evaluation activities for the vertical

Stakeholders Engagement

  • Engage with high-level external stakeholders (government officials, representatives from the private sector, civil society organisations, think tanks, research institutions, academia etc., to explore opportunities to make them more aware towards the programme by offering them critical outcomes from the program portfolio
  • Through ongoing dialogue, support relevant stakeholders in the usage of project-specific outcomes towards the design and implementation of sector-specific policies
  • Collaborate with the larger network to leverage expertise and provide sector updates

Communication

  • Prepare communication materials e.g. policy briefs, op-eds, thematic presentations, and narratives for various stakeholders.
  • Support programme lead through background research and drafting concept notes/proposals / progress reports etc.
  • Develop and provide programmatic inputs to Communications.
  • Support Programme Lead in completing fundraising efforts through background research and drafting concept notes, proposals, progress report

Required qualification, experience and competencies

  • Master’s Degree or equivalent in Power Management / Environment / Energy / Engineering or related stream from a reputed University / Institute;
  • 10-12 years of relevant experience is required. Experience in the Power Sector, Renewable Energy (RE), and Electric Utilities (EU), is desirable.
  • Knowledge of Power sector/RE/EU/ policies, regulations, and programmes at international, national, and sub-national level;
  • Ability to interact with a wider variety of external stakeholders including government officials, and representatives from private sector, civil society organisations, and national and international think tanks and research institutions;
  • Excellent written, and verbal communications, and presentation skills
  • Climate Optimist with a ‘Can do’ spirit.
  • Superior teamworking and collaborating skills;
  • Drive, Commitment and Ownership for the delegated responsibilities;
