AVPN Climate Action Platform in collaboration with Dasra, India Climate Collaborative, and Shakti Sustainable Energy Foundation, conducted a roundtable session to brainstorm opportunities to scale climate philanthropy in India on the theme ‘Scaling Climate Philanthropy in India’ on December 12-13, 2023, at Mumbai, India.
The session focused on how philanthropy can reinvent its role beyond giving and deliberated strategies to engage philanthropies from Tier 2 and 3 cities in climate action. The discussions also paved the way to build sustainable multi-year engagements between philanthropies and climate actors.
Shakti Sustainable Energy Foundation along with other organisations discussed how India is confronted with severe vulnerabilities to climate change, demanding immediate intervention. The pivotal role of philanthropy in expediting climate initiatives cannot be overstated along with the urgent need to enhance philanthropic involvement in the country.
The session concluded with the need to build a cohesive narrative, clarity of intended outcomes, and modular programmatic solutions for collaboration on shaping the wider narrative.
