Shakti Sustainable Energy Foundation participated in a roundtable discussion held during the launch event of India’s first e-MHGV pilot demonstration, a flag-off event and a roundtable for ‘Electrifying the Eastern Corridor’ organised by SwitchON Foundation (Environment Conservation Society. The event was organised in collaboration with Shakti and KPMG India in Kolkata as knowledge partners on June 26, 2024. The event brought together various stakeholders, including industry experts, policymakers, and representatives from academia and civil society. The aim was to enable dialogue and exchange insights on overcoming challenges and accelerating the adoption of electric medium and heavy goods vehicles (e-MHGVs) in the region.

Participating in the event, Narayankumar Sreekumar, Associate Director, Electric Mobility Initiative, Shakti, said, “Shifting to zero-emission trucks is essential for reducing emissions in India’s trucking industry. This transition calls for customised solutions, comprehensive regulations, and a focus on the occupational health of truck drivers”.

The event was marked by a flag-off ceremony and a high-level roundtable discussion, graced by distinguished guests Shri S. Suresh Kumar (IAS), Chairman of Damodar Valley Corporation (DVC) and Ms Melinda Pavek, Consul General of the U.S. Consulate General in Kolkata.

Key themes at the event included discussions on e-MHGV technology’s viability and performance, infrastructure requirements such as robust charging networks, policy frameworks supporting adoption, market dynamics affecting consumer behaviour, and the importance of collaborative partnerships for effective deployment.
