The 2nd Roundtable on Emissions Accounting and ZET adoption for Freight Decarbonisation was organised by Smart Freight Centre on November 29, 2023, at the Jio World Convention Centre, BKC, Mumbai. The Roundtable aimed to address key barriers to Zero Emission Transport (ZET) adoption in the Indian freight sector and discuss the institutionalisation of Freight Emissions accounting.
The discussions delved into the close collaboration between SFC and the global freight industry, emphasising activities with minor shippers, Logistics Service Providers (LSPs), and carriers, Noteworthy was the presentation on the SFC India program, specifically the Niti Aayog’s e-Fast platform, aiming to translate aggregated demand into fundable ZET pilots on select corridors.
During the Roundtable, Narayankumar Sreekumar, Associate Director, Electric Mobility, Shakti Sustainable Energy Foundation, said, “The widespread embrace of ZETs in India calls for a holistic and collaborative strategy. Aligning powerful policies, blending incentivisation with supply-side mandates, will pave the way for India to seamlessly transition towards freight electrification.”
He also thanked the participants for their insightful studies and research and the active participation by the industry which paves the way to move aggressively towards electrifying road freight ecosystem and the need for standardising emissions accounting.
