Shakti, in collaboration with Gujrat Power Cooperation Limited (GPCL) and PwC had organised a kick-off consultation workshop to familiarise the key stakeholders about the initiative and further initiate the programme activities for “Hydrogen Economy: Innovation-led Growth in Industrial Clusters of Gujarat”. The workshop was conducted on February 9, 2024, at The Ummed, Ahmedabad, Gujarat.
The workshop comprised of stakeholders from different blocks of structured economy like from the government, industry, academia, development agencies, corporate sector, and other various think tanks. The workshop aimed to explore the feasibility and viability of green hydrogen as an alternate energy source for the industrial clusters in Gujrat. The workshop has been guided by the exclusive insights from the senior leaderships of GPCL, Adani Enterprise, Dalmia Cement, HSBC India, Asian Development Bank, WRI India, CEEW, NTPC, Suzlon Energy Limited, ReNew, GERMI, Reucme, GUVNL, Atal Innovation mission NITI AAYOG, etc.
During the workshop Mr Arun Mahesh Babu, IAS, MD- GPCL highlighted the government of the participants from Adani and Dalmia Cement elaborated on their plans to manufacture and use hydrogen to ensure the green transition of respective industry sub-sectors in near future. Gujarat’s initiatives to make the state a leading hub for green hydrogen production and its use by various sectors of the economy. He also urged the industry leaders to rise to the occasion, implement the initiatives on ground, and play their role in ensuring country’s energy security.
Dr Sachin Kumar, Director, Industry Buildings and Cooling, Shakti, moderated a Consultation Session, ‘Readiness for adoption of and Pathways to catalyze GH2 uptake in industrial units/clusters of Gujarat’ where participants from Adani and Dalmia Cement elaborated on their plans to manufacture and use hydrogen to ensure the green transition of respective industry sub-sectors in near future.
Bansi Shukla, Senior Programme Manager, Shakti, commenced the workshop by highlighting the importance of research in driving Green Hydrogen innovation. Shakti accentuated the initiative aim to explore feasible and viable ways to practically use Green Hydrogen across various industrial clusters in Gujarat.
Dr Ashwini Kumar, Advisor to Shakti, presented Shakti’s initiative supported by HSBC, focusing on India’s net- zero emissions target and their efforts to build a wide green hydrogen ecosystem. He spoke about the work done on green hydrogen production on the national level, highlighting on awarded projects of 4.12 lakh tonnes of green hydrogen productions and electrolysis projects of 1,500 MW capacity.
The workshop generated valuable insights and discussions on the development of Green Hydrogen in Gujarat and that collaboration between government, industry, academia, development agencies, NGOs and think tanks is crucial to overcome challenges and unlock the potential of Green Hydrogen as clean energy source.
