Solar World Congress 2023: Moving the World Toward 100% Renewable Energy held in New Delhi, from October 30 to November 4, 2023, was jointly organised by ISA, Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE), ADB, and International Solar Energy Society.
For over fifty years, the International Solar Energy Society (ISES) has convened the foremost solar energy experts at its biennial Solar World Congresses (SWC). These gatherings serve as platforms to exchange technology developments, new research breakthroughs, case studies, and best practices in solar and renewable energy. The recent Congress emphasised the urgency of addressing the climate crisis by accelerating a just and sustainable energy transformation globally, with a focus on enhanced collaboration among stakeholders and decision-makers, particularly in India.
In addition to opportunities for dialogues among decision-makers and stakeholders, the 300 participants from 38 countries shared information about the latest solar energy R&D developments and applications for both solar thermal and solar electric technologies, grid flexibility, and enhancements under an increasingly distributed energy system, storage technologies, off-grid programmes, solar design for buildings and urban regions, solar fuel development, educational programmes, and many other topics. Roles and opportunities for engagement of all young ISES professionals were focal points throughout the Congress.
Dr Ashvini Kumar, Technical Advisor at Shakti participated in the Solar World Congress. He was a member of the International Organising Committee headed by Dr Dave Renne of NREL, USA, and co-chair of the Scientific Committee for the Congress.
