Cities are major consumers of energy, but also face challenges from fossil fuel emissions, poor air quality and the impacts of climate change. Importantly, cities provide the necessary economies of scale required to adopt the latest low-carbon solutions on sustainable transport, energy-efficient buildings, waste management, etc. and to benefit from their adoption. Through this session, we hope to highlight this potential, identify challenges and opportunities faced by cities in this endeavor, and discuss how stakeholders in India, especially policy makers, civil society, industry bodies and academia, can begin to engage this potential more effectively.
