Shakti Sustainable Energy Foundation Signs MoU with Goa Energy Development Agency (GEDA)

Shakti signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Goa Energy Development Agency (GEDA) on February 8, 2024, in the presence of Honourable Chief Minister of the State of Goa, Dr Pramod Sawant, And Shri Sanjeev Joglekar, Member Secretary GEDA.

Partnership Agreement Aims to Accelerate Renewable Energy Deployment in Goa

In a significant move towards sustainable development, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) has been established to foster collaboration between concerned parties to expedite the deployment of Renewable Energy (RE) in the State of Goa. The ultimate objective is to achieve ambitious climate goals, notably transitioning to 100% RE-based electricity supply in Goa by 2050.

Specifically, the MOU outlines key areas of focus:

  • Collaboration on solar rooftop initiatives
  • Participation in the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Urja Surakshaevam Utthaan Mahabhiyan scheme (PM-KUSUM)
  • Initiatives to green the fishery sector
  • Formulation of a Renewable Energy Policy for the state

Areas of Cooperation:

Shakti, within its mandate, will collaborate with its ecosystem and undertake actions required by the Goa Energy Development Agency (GEDA) to support the initiatives. These efforts will include increasing support for the adoption of clean energy through large-scale deployment of rooftop solar PV systems, developing solution frameworks and roadmaps for PM-KUSUM implementation, addressing actions related to greening the fishery sector, and offering support in the preparation of a comprehensive Renewable Energy Policy tailored to the needs of Goa.

Roles and Responsibilities:

Shakti will provide technical assistance support through qualified partners, while GEDA will facilitate support in various forms such as providing a nodal officer, sharing secondary data, and coordinating with relevant stakeholders.

GEDA will integrate results and recommendations generated from Shakti’s activities into relevant programs, while Shakti will be responsible for routine monitoring of joint activities.

This collaborative effort underscores a commitment to sustainable development and marks a significant step towards achieving Goa’s renewable energy goals. Through cooperation and shared responsibilities, the MOU sets a solid foundation for a greener and more sustainable future for the state.

Shakti will work with GEDA to advance the large-scale deployment of Rooftop Solar PV, develop a framework and roadmap for PM-KUSUM implementation, green the fishery sector in the state, and prepare a renewable energy policy for the state of Goa. Shakti will work closely with GEDA in developing tools and frameworks, building the capacity of stakeholders, and providing technical and analytical support as part of this MoU.”
