Undertaken By: Centre for Science and Environment,    Recent Publication: 2017

Coal-based thermal power plants are a significant source of air pollution and greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. In 2015, the Ministry of Environment, Forests and Climate Change and the Central Pollution Control Board notified more stringent emission standards for thermal power plants. However, little progress has been made by the thermal power sector to implement the new standards and the original deadline to comply has already been missed. This report provides a detailed assessment of the on-ground situation and provides recommendations to change the status quo.
