Demand side energy management strategies for residential and commercial buildings depend on accurate, comprehensive data that is readily available and up to date. While there are several organizations that map energy use data in India, the available data lacks consistency and granularity, and is not comprehensive, easily accessible, or collected frequently enough. This initiative builds upon past efforts by the NITI Aayog sub-group on “Demand (consumption) Side Energy Data Management” and conducts an in-depth assessment of the official data sources to evaluate the robustness of residential and commercial final energy consumption data. The studies identify challenges in energy data management in both the sectors and provide recommendations to address these challenges.
