At COP 26, India set ambitious targets with enhanced 2030 NDCs, energy independence by 2047 along with a commitment towards net zero in 2070. Accelerating and scaling up climate finance is a critical enabler if India is to meet these goals. Increased coordination and dialogue amongst relevant stakeholders is the need of the hour, as we grapple making India’s financial system greener and more resilient.
The Agence Française de Développement (AFD), Small Industries Development Bank of India (SIDBI), and Shakti Sustainable Energy Foundation jointly host the Green Indian Financial System (GIFS) Initiative which facilitates such dialogues and discussions on greening the Indian financial system between all stakeholders, as well as to catalyse existing initiatives and identify priority areas for India’s climate finance actors. The GIFS is hosting a three day workshop in Paris, France bringing in renowned French and European experts from the financial ecosystem and policy-making bodies. This workshop will enable knowledge exchange between them and the high-level Indian delegation on key issues pertaining to greening finance, the role public authorities and regulators, banks climate strategy and portfolio management and innovate financial instruments.
