While India’s power sector is evolving, public awareness and participation in electricity governance processes is quite limited. On the one hand, utilities must adopt initiatives that can influence consumer behavior, ensure quality of supply and profitability. On the other, consumers need to be aware of their rights, responsibilities, regulations as well as grievance redressal mechanisms. An effective way to establish strong interactions between consumers and electricity sector decision-makers is to bring consumer issues and participatory processes to the forefront. It is within this context that Shakti is working to build the capacity of consumers in Rajasthan for their more effective engagement in the state’s electricity sector. This initiative is being undertaken in select districts of Rajasthan.
