Over the last two decades, India has experienced a dynamic transformation with rapid economic growth, urbanisation underpinned by a burgeoning population. These changes have intensified the demand and use of natural resources. Raising the living standards of the Indians through better infrastructure, housing and capital equipment, entails a high rate of material consumption of resources. In order to reduce overall CO2 emissions from industrial manufacturing to near zero levels in the long-run, efforts need to be put in place that will help the industry transition towards adopting low-carbon pathways. This requires research that focuses on improving the knowledge base and conditions necessary for deep decarbonization in the industrial manufacturing sectors in India.
